Globe

No, not the one in Montreal. Not the one in New York either. This is the one on Bank Street in the Glebe. Dria and I went there for lunch today and it was quite decent. The location has gone through its fair share of businesses over the past few years. It was previously the Avenue Grille and before that it was some diner-like place like Nickels (but not actually Nickels). There’s a lot of intense competition for your hard-earned lunch and dinner dollars so Globe will have to offer something different, or at the very least, something better than the rest to stay afloat.

The menu looks decent and they offer brunch on weekends. A decent wine list and a full complement of beers (including Leffe on tap) provide several good reasons to try this spot. I had the Tokyo sandwich on foccacia bread with a side salad. The sandwich consisted of a grilled chicken breast with lettuce and tomato with wasabi mayo. It was pretty good. The salad had a nice balsamic vinaigrette dressing on it. Dria had a caesar salad which also tasted pretty good.

Prices were reasonable. As a “Bar and Restaurant”, I’m thinking this might be a safe alternative for a drink to the recently baby-infested Arrow & Loon or the perennial Royal Oak.

In other news, my car is now freshly cleaned and I got to listen to some Albert Collins on my iPod on the bus ride back to work.
