WordPress Photo Plugins

WordPress is great software. I have yet to see a decent photo plugin for it though. Also, I find flickr somewhat objectionable. If I wanted my pictures to swim in the ocean, I’d flush them down the toilet. I admit, that’s dumb, but it’s the closest I can really come to explaining my disdain for flickr – it’s a vague feeling of ugliness.

That page would inherit all of the styles of the containing blog and generally look like it belongs there. A folder structure can be created in the Pages area of WordPress that allows nesting within a top-level Gallery page.

This shouldn’t be too difficult as most of what I need is already in iPhoto and WordPress. I think using the Pages section of WordPress would be a natural, sensible place to put this. No modifications to the database will be required (hopefully) and iPhoto’s webpage export function should produce the HTML and thumbnails that will be included in the page.

We Shall See…

Couldn’t agree with you more. I love WordPress (although I’ve only been playing with it for a week) and really dislike Flickr. It’d be great if there was a plugin to get photos from iPhoto to WordPress. This definitely won’t come from Apple, as they are already tied to publishing photos through the .mac end of things. I find .mac too expensive and too limiting.

I wonder, are there a lot of Mac users who also use WordPress?

yes, dave..

there are a lot (ok, at least 1) of Mac users using WordPress. In fact, i launched my own blog (officially) just last night, and was looking for a way to get stuff out of iPhoto into WP without resorting to flickr.

i’m going to read up on Photon in the meantime. If you, or anyone else, hears about iPhoto > WP tools.. give me a shout!

thx

hi bhamm,

I checked out Photon and did a little write-up on it last week. It’s not bad, but more of a photoblog plugin than a gallery plugin. It’s limited, but if all you want is to post the occasional picture from iPhoto, it’s not bad.

Thanks everyone. I too am a Mac user, blogging with WP (ex-iBlogger), and using iPhoto. But getting the two together has been a recent quest of mine.

Up until now, I’ve been using the very great (and free!) gallery app Galerie. It works very tightly with iPhoto but makes flat HTML files. I don’t know how to incorporate its results into a WP blog. You can see my Galerie produced photos on my blog, under the “Photos” page link under the banner.

Amazing, I’ll looking to do the same thing, and it’s 4 years later.

wow! How 4 years can change your opinions. Not sure I’d recommend Gallery2 anymore. It’s a real pain to setup, difficult to integrate with wordpress and a bit dangerous to host due to all the binary executables you need to run with it.

I must say, I came around on Flickr and am a happy user there. But I understand (and share!) many of the concerns of “keeping your stuff in the cloud”.

good luck!
