Xbox… Dead?
My Xbox 360 died last night. I turned it on for a quick round of Geometry Wars before dinner and I got the Three Lights. I shut it down then turned it on again. This time the fans revved up to full blast and stayed there with no output on the screen. I shut it down, disconnected the power cord, waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. That time, I got nothing. This morning I disconnected everything then reconnected the power-supply and AV cables (no harddrive) with no luck. The thing isn’t lighting up at all.
So now I get to try out Future Shop’s return policy. Hopefully if I bring it in today, if they get a shipment this week they’ll give me a replacement. If not, well, Santa has forsaken me!
oh, and I’ve my 5 or 6 gamer friends who managed to get Xbox 360s. Mine is the first to die. Prod’s Core system that was picked up for him had three red lights on it one night but it came back after a disconnection and reconnection to the power supply.
update: 11:53
I called Future Shop and talked to the very busy customer support person and she told me that they would replace defective units purchased within the last 30 days. She then transferred me to the Software department who told me to “just hang onto it” since they probably wouldn’t be getting any more units before Christmas.
So, I called the Microsoft Xbox support line and talked to a nice guy who is shipping me a box to return it in. If all of my ducks line up in the correct row, I might just get one before the end of this week. I’m not holding my breath though – the ducks are very busy right now.
