iPhoto -> Wordpress + Gallery2 = Long Sunday
Good morning. How was your weekend? Mine was good, thanks for asking!
That image (of my hot TT) is from my gallery installation. Click it to see the big image! It was a bit of a bitch to setup because the default mod_rewrite rules that gallery2 generates are not entirely compatible with wordpress’. After a day of futzing and looking at the Electrolund’s .htaccess file, I was able to figure out that all I needed to do inside Gallery2 was rename some of the permalinks to point to more meaningful directory names and we were in business. 8 hours later. Punctuated by a drive to the big grocery store for produce and snacks. And left-over ribs.
Of course, this might have been easier if I hadn’t been hung-over from an evening of wine and cheese followed by slow-cooked ribs and more wine. While I was playing around, dria was doing database backups and upgrading to WP2 making me look rather silly. Which is easy to do. On my best days.
So, I don’t have many pictures up yet, and I’m not entirely finished with the site integration I want to do, but I have the beginnings of a decent photo publishing system. I do like this better than the .Mac stuff and “photocasting” is right out because of their horrible RSS mechanism making it useless for most users. The real win for all of this is the excellent iPhotoToGallery plugin which makes dumping an album out of iPhoto absolutely brain-dead simple. Which for me, is the biggest win of all.
Then I played some more single player Ghost Recon because Doc couldn’t keep his TeamSpeak server running and I got bored with reconnecting. Ghost Recon’s a good game. I will provide a more in-depth review a bit later. First, I need lunch.
