State Run Media and the Illusion of Discourse

I have just awoken from a late morning / early afternoon nap. I had a breakfast of left-over chinese food. The sun is shining and the new snow is melting faster than it is accumulating. I love this new weather.

Dew-Line
my radar widget in a state of confusion this morning, decided to draw in the new arctic circle, several degrees higher than it should be. Either that or it’s the DEW line. Or maybe the new US/Canada border. It was only a matter of time before Alberta tempted them.
Here’s a snippet from IRC this morning that made me chortle:

11:44 < dria> i hate it when people turn comments off on their blogs
11:44 < dria> i don't comment often but when i want to i want to be able to
11:45 < boc> but that's not what my "blog" is for
11:45 < boc> if i cared what you thought i'd read yours
11:45 < boc> this is the only state-run media i've got

Well sir, if that’s how you’re going to play it, I will deploy all of my comments on your “blog” right here. Where you may ignore them at your leisure!

It is, as they say, on.

i think turning comments off site-wide is fine if that’s what you want to do with your blawg. it’s the willy-nilly people who pick-and-choose when to allow comments that bug me …

hey bodensatz,

Yeah, I have no problem with people disallowing comments either. It’s their site, after all. I was just bugging the bocster a little.

I keep moderation turned on here as a last line of defence against spammers. I don’t believe I’ve ever disallowed a comment from a “real person” though.

I need to post more is what I need to do… Happy New Years!
