Random Promotion: The National - Boxer

Hi blog. How are you? We don’t talk much anymore, do we?

I’ve been on a bit of a tear lately, adding some new items to my music collection. Some great, some not so great. In the great category, I have just discovered The National and their new album Boxer. Anthemic, gloomy rock with a dash of hope, the singer Matt Berninger evokes a more sober version of the Tindersticks’ Stuart Staples.

On top of the urgent, relentless drumming and droning guitars, there are some surprisingly beautiful orchestral touches throughout. The album is well blended and comes across as somewhat languid if not effortless in its production. Piano courtesy of Sufjan Stevens.

Go get some.
