My old G5 hasn't been turned on in awhile. Have you tried checking your Network Location settings and making sure that your ethernet port is active for your configuration? That seemed to fix the wake problem I was seeing on my MacBook Pro (and I discovered the problem again when I switched locations and forgot to enable it). good luck.
