I just learned about this handy bookmarklet after thinking about how easy it is to publish linked content to things like Tumblr. And I got to thinking, why aren’t I using this for my blogs? Like, this one?

Sure enough, the good people at Automattic have already done this and it’s been available for quite some time. It is a bit of a n3wb mistake not to have noticed it earlier, but that’s ok. I am comfortable in my ignorance.

This blog’s theme has been bugging me for awhile and was due for a change. With apologies to kev, I’m shamelessly lifting Derek Powazek’s Depo-Skinny theme. I’ll be tailoring it to my own tastes over the next couple of days so if stuff seems broken, it probably is. You’d think I’d test this on a separate installation or something.

This theme should hopefully look decent just about everywhere. Mobes included.

Changes

Yes, it’s another blog post about this blog. Astute viewers who actually visit webpages outside of their newsreaders might have noticed some theme changes and additions to the bottom-bar over the past couple of weeks. I switched to the pretty excellent hemingway theme after the version of hemingwayEx I was using stopped working with the latest version of WordPress. Undaunted, I set about making hemingway my own.

I made also decided to finally dump Gallery2 for my image-hosting and move everything to my flickr account. Having to maintain that somewhat horrific infrastructure along with WordPress compatibility which was never as seamless as I’d have liked was kind of a pain, and no doubt a security nightmare for those maintaining the machine this blog lives on. No more! Hopefully my Flickr contacts will bear with me while I gradually put up some older images to back-fill some of the earlier posts that included links to Gal2 images.

The Photos page can now die a slow death.

I have a couple of final changes and small additions I want to make to the already ridiculous bottom bar, and will probably continue tweaking CSS (embedded images need some padding, for example) but otherwise, I’m pretty pleased with the change. It beats the over-used Kubrick (with apologies to Michael Heileman who created it)

moved to the new server at long last. Special thanks to the Shaver Man for his tireless efforts and outstanding knowledge of the black arts of server administration.

A few things are broken. The gallery isn’t up and it may disappear altogether in favor of a different solution. So there will be some missing images. I may also upgrade this in the near future. That may break further things. Stay tuned!

Updated Music Library Listing

I updated my online music library today. It’s been overlong. The current stats are 8436 songs, 27.3 days, 56.3 GB. That’s for a Smart Playlist gathering all checked tracks and excluding videos and podcasts. If including the full library, I’d have 12863 items, 41:12:51:32 total time and 82.34GB. This week I had to deselect a bunch of music and podcasts because I’d filled my iPod. Again.

As usual, the list was produced with iTunes Publisher. For kicks I downloaded the source tarball and compiled it in Xcode 3.0 in OS X 10.5 aka Leopard. I had to fix a few warnings, but overall it was a painless and exciting experience.

You might see something a little different on the n3wblog. I’ve installed the excellent hemingwayEx theme. Thanks for this Nalin. Very nice work.

I’ve still got a bit of work to do to get this integrated. Some extra organization and some changes to my links. I’ll also be adding the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin for WordPress in short order. Stay tuned!

Updated Music List

For those who are interested, I’ve updated my music collection list. I use iTunesPublisher for this and it makes it nice’n'easy. For this go around, I’ve created a new smart playlist that excludes unchecked music, podcasts and videos which have been sneaking into my library more and more often of late.
